Benue State Establishes Internal Security Office
Summary:
The Benue State Security Council has approved the establishment of an Internal Security Office to enhance coordination between the governor’s office and security agencies for improved response to security issues. Governor Hyacinth Alia, represented by Deputy Governor Barrister Sam Ode, announced this after a joint security meeting. The office will be led by a Director General appointed by the governor.
The council also decided to maintain a curfew and ban protests across the Sankera district. Additionally, a judicial commission of inquiry will be established to investigate the destruction of property in the Ukum region following recent protests. Governor Alia raised concerns about increasing illegal roadblocks and called for cooperation among security services to combat crime.
The law prohibiting Matching Grounds remains in force, and there will be a workshop organized to educate locals about the dangers of illegal drugs and human trafficking, in coordination with the Special Adviser on Security and the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism.
