A flash flood warning has been declared for Antigua and Barbuda due to an approaching tropical wave expected to impact the islands from Saturday to Sunday. The Meteorological Department reports that moderate to major flooding is already occurring in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
The disturbance is creating cloudy conditions, severe thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall. Predictions suggest that rainfall could reach up to 2 inches in some areas, potentially disrupting road travel. Gusty winds and continuing moisture could exacerbate the flooding, with up to three inches of rain expected in the next few hours.
Residents are advised to exercise caution, especially on flooded roads, as the weather could lead to dangerous conditions. The warning is particularly critical given that the hurricane season for 2024 has just begun.
