Leeds Woman Sentenced for Failing to Report Terror Plot

A Leeds woman, Nabeela Anjum, 49, has been sentenced to three years in jail for failing to report a planned terror attack by her son’s friend. Anjum, a biomedical scientist, was aware that her teenage son Sameer had been radicalized and was in contact with Al-Arfat Hassan, a radical drill rapper planning a terror attack. Despite her attempts to persuade Sameer to report Hassan to the police, Anjum did not take action herself when her son refused. The court presented messages where Anjum pleaded with Sameer to cut ties with Hassan and urged him to call the police, but ultimately, she did not report the threat. Judge Tom Bayliss KC emphasized the serious consequences of Anjum’s silence, while Counter Terrorism Policing North East stressed the importance of reporting potential terrorist activities to prevent harm.
