WA Government Issues Warning Over Abattoir Waste Dumping

In a recent development, the WA Department of Water and Environmental Regulation plans to issue a warning to the Kimberley Meat Company for illegally dumping over 1,400 tonnes of abattoir waste on Yeeda Station, in violation of their environmental guidelines. This decision follows an ABC investigation that revealed cattle bones discarded close to the Great Northern Highway, prompting the government to act. Despite the warning, local environmental group Environs Kimberley has called for stricter penalties, arguing that a mere warning sends the wrong message and fails to deter future violations. The Kimberley Meat Company, now under voluntary administration, faces scrutiny over nearly a million dollars in state funding it received, raising concerns about regulatory leniency.
