Earthquake Strikes Near Kermadec Islands with No Tsunami Alerts Issued
Two earthquakes have struck near the Kermadec Islands northeast of New Zealand. The first, a 6.2 magnitude quake, occurred at 3.54am on Saturday and had a depth of 19.6km, as reported by the United States Geological Survey. Despite this, no tsunami alerts were issued by New Zealand Government channels. A subsequent earthquake of a 5.1 magnitude hit the same area at 9.06am with a depth of 32.2km.
