Hyderabad NEET 2024 Results Spark Controversy as Parties Demand CBI Investigation

Hyderabad, June 9, 2024 – The announcement of NEET 2024 results on June 4 has led to widespread controversy, prompting calls from major political parties, the Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), for a high-level investigation into alleged irregularities. Both parties have voiced serious concerns over the integrity of the examination process managed by the National Testing Agency (NTA), with the Congress demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The Congress party has pointed out multiple discrepancies, including reports of the exam paper being leaked in several locations. Their statement emphasized the record number of 67 students achieving a perfect score of 720, an unprecedented occurrence in the history of NEET that raises suspicions of malpractice. A particular focus has been placed on a testing centre in Haryana, where eight students scored above 718, including six with perfect scores, suggesting possible cheating due to the unlikely clustering of high scores.
The Congress and TPCC Leader Uday Kanth have criticized the NTA’s explanations as unsatisfactory and called for transparency regarding the allocation of grace marks, which they claim were unfairly distributed and not disclosed in advance, potentially disadvantaging many students. Moreover, the timing of the result announcement, coinciding with the Lok Sabha 2024 election results, has raised questions about an attempt to avoid scrutiny.
In response to these allegations, the Congress has urged a suspension of the counseling process, a thorough CBI investigation, scrutiny of students who received grace marks, and strict penalties for those found guilty of malpractice.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) also expressed concern, particularly highlighting the absence of Telangana students in the top 5 for the first time in five years and questioning the transparency in the grace marks allocation. KTR has called for a high-level expert committee to ensure fairness and justice for all students and their families, emphasizing the need for a standardized methodology for grace marks that benefits all, not just a select group.
The mounting pressure from both parties on the NDA government to address these allegations suggests a growing demand for accountability and transparency in the NEET 2024 examination process.
