Army Cyber Command Enhances Protection Against Cyber Threats to US Infrastructure
The Army Cyber Command is intensifying its cybersecurity defenses to protect U.S. critical infrastructure from threats, particularly those posed by the Chinese cyberespionage group Volt Typhoon, as reported by DefenseScoop. This year’s Cyber Yankee exercise, a program initiated ten years ago to address cyber policy and partnership gaps, included simulations that mimic Volt Typhoon’s attacks on utility companies. These simulations aim to enhance understanding and preparedness against such infiltrations, focusing on the group’s use of living-off-the-land techniques. Additionally, the Army Cyber Command is working to strengthen cyber defenses at hydroelectric power plants and supply depots by providing extensive training on industrial control system security. Lt. Gen. Maria Barrett, the Army Cyber Command Commander, highlighted the shift in focus towards protecting critical infrastructure sectors such as aviation, water, energy, and transportation from cyber threats.
