CA Association Aids in Compliance with Violence Plan Deadline

California Employers Association Announces Tools for Workplace Violence Prevention Plan Compliance by 2024

California Employers Association (CEA) has launched DIY tools to assist businesses in developing their workplace violence prevention plans ahead of the new state compliance deadline on July 1, 2024. Kim Gusman, President and CEO of CEA, emphasized the urgency for employers to prioritize this plan to ensure they meet the upcoming requirements. The plan, which must be tailored to the specific needs of each business, aims to address a broad definition of workplace violence that includes physical attacks, threats, sexual assault, and animal attacks, among other incidents.
Employers are obligated to document all incidents of workplace violence and maintain these records for a minimum of five years. Training records, however, must be kept for at least one year. The upcoming regulation, enforced under SB 553 (Labor Code Section 6401.9), mandates most employers to implement this plan, with few exceptions such as teleworkers in non-employer-controlled locations, workplaces not open to the public with less than 10 on-site employees, and certain facilities operated by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and law enforcement agencies.
To support employers in this endeavor, CEA offers a DIY Workplace Violence Prevention Plan package priced at $399 for non-members and $199 for members. Additionally, a complimentary live Q&A webinar with CEA and the Safety Center is scheduled for June 4, 2024, to address questions about the law and compliance requirements.
CEA serves as a valuable resource for employers across California, providing HR solutions, training, and professional development services since 1937. The association also offers consultation and training in both English and Spanish, aiming to empower employers with the necessary tools and knowledge to comply with labor laws, manage their workforce effectively, and enhance their bottom line.
