Prepare for Protests at Democratic National Convention in Chicago>
Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling has assured the public that the city is well-prepared for the upcoming Democratic National Convention (DNC) and will avoid a repeat of the violent protests seen during the 1968 convention. With concerns from Democrats about potential anti-Israel protests, Snelling emphasized the extensive training Chicago police officers have undergone to handle civil unrest non-violently. Approximately 2,500 officers will receive specialized “tier one training” to manage volatile incidents. The DNC, set for August 19-22 at the United Center, is expected to attract 50,000 visitors and significant protests.
