Four terrorists have been neutralised while two Army soldiers have been killed in action during ongoing operations launched by security forces in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday afternoon.
In Modergam village of Kulgam, security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation based on intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the village. As the forces went close to the house, hiding terrorists opened indiscriminate fire at them resulting in injuries to a soldier who later passed away at an Army hospital.
After two hours, another gunfight broke out in the Frisal Chinnigam area of Kulgam district in which drone footage accessed by News18 showed four bodies of terrorists lying in the compound of a house where the exchange took place.
“Security forces received an input about the movement following which the target house was surrounded and from inside the house gunfire was drawn; the encounter is still going on in Chinnigam,” VK Birdi, IGP Kashmir, told the media near the encounter spot adding that the bodies had been sighted.
A para commando in Modergam and a havaldar of the Army in Frisal village were killed in action. Four terrorists have been gunned down in the Modergam encounter spot. Sources told News18 that they believe more terrorists are hiding in Modergam as gunfire from inside the house continues.
Both the operations are going on and a tight cordon has been laid around the area. The encounters have come at a time when the Amarnath Yatra is going on and terror outfits have threatened to target it.
Officials told News18 that the two encounters were a setback to the Hizbul Mujahideen.
