Cy in the Sky Seeks New Home
Ames residents Bill and Toni Woodman are searching for a permanent home for their “Cy in the Sky” hot air balloon, a 70-foot-tall Iowa State University-themed balloon featuring a sewn-on cartoon character. The balloon, which was a familiar sight over the ISU stadium from 1985 to 2000, is currently stored in their living room. Despite their efforts, including reaching out to various museums and the university administration, they have not found a place to display it. The Woodmans emphasize the importance of preserving the balloon, suggesting it could be showcased in an atrium as a public attraction. Bill, a retired Sociology professor at ISU, and Toni, a former language teacher, wish for the balloon to be appreciated by future generations while keeping its vibrant fabric intact.
