“DHS Advisory Board Deemed Trump Supporters Potential Terror Threats, Documents Reveal”
In a recent report, internal documents obtained by America First Legal (AFL) reveal that a now-disbanded Department of Homeland Security (DHS) advisory board, called the “Homeland Intelligence Experts Group,” suggested that supporters of former President Donald Trump, military personnel, and religious individuals could pose a heightened domestic terrorism risk. The advisory board, which included notable figures such as former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan, was established in September 2023 to provide expert analysis on terrorism and controlled substance trafficking. According to the documents, the board believed that Trump supporters accounted for most of the domestic terrorism threat in the U.S. AFL, a conservative legal nonprofit, criticized the board for apparent partisanship and accused the Biden administration of weaponizing the federal government against political opponents. The DHS has since disbanded the group following a lawsuit.
