Ex-Marine Spy Case: Death Not Suspicious

Former Royal Marine Accused of Espionage Found Dead, Death Not Deemed Suspicious

Former Royal Marine Matthew Trickett, 37, who was recently charged with espionage offences for allegedly working with Hong Kong intelligence services, has been found dead in a park near his home. Thames Valley Police have stated that his death is not being treated as suspicious after a Home Office post-mortem examination. Trickett was discovered by a member of the public six days after being released on bail from Westminster Magistrates’ Court, where he had been remanded in custody for his own welfare ahead of a trial. Despite warnings from the prosecution about his suicidal tendencies, he was granted bail. His death is currently under review by a Berkshire coroner, with the cause of death remaining unexplained. Cases against Trickett have been discontinued following his death. Two co-accused individuals, a Border Force worker and a retired police officer, were also due in court facing charges under the National Security Act for assisting a foreign intelligence service. Trickett’s family is being supported by specialist officers during this time.
