Gibraltar Port Authority and Gibdock Staff Complete Port Facility Security Officer Training
Port Officers from the Gibraltar Port Authority and their colleagues at Gibdock have successfully completed a training program to become certified Port Facility Security Officers (PFSO), marking a significant step in their ongoing personal and professional development. The training, which spanned three days, was conducted by Scott Breckenridge, an Associate Lecturer in Strategic Studies and Projects Officer for the Centre for Seapower and Strategy at the University of Plymouth. This program is tailored for security officers tasked with overseeing port security, adhering to the guidelines set by the UK’s Department for Transport.
The curriculum included various workshops, participant presentations, and an examination, all aimed at enhancing the officers’ understanding and execution of their duties in line with the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code. Key areas of focus were the development, maintenance, and review of port facility security plans, coordination of search plans and security operations, port facility access controls, and conducting port security assessments and threat analyses.
John Ghio, CEO and Captain of the Port, expressed his gratitude to Mr. Breckenridge for his pivotal role in delivering this crucial training program, underscoring its importance for the Gibraltar Port Authority and Gibdock in bolstering port security.
