Hong Kong Universities Shine in Global Rankings>
Summary:
Hong Kong’s universities have made significant strides in recovering from the challenges posed by the pandemic and civil unrest, as evidenced by improved rankings in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) global evaluation. Six public institutions in Hong Kong have seen their standings rise due to better reputations with employers and enhanced research performance. The University of Hong Kong (HKU) achieved its highest position ever, climbing to 17th place globally and becoming the fourth-highest in Asia. The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology also saw notable improvements, with CUHK reaching 36th place and HKUST re-entering the top 50 at 47th. Polytechnic University and City University moved up to 57th and 62nd, respectively, while Baptist University improved to 252nd. Lingnan University was the only institution to drop in rank. The assessments were based on various factors including academic and employer reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, and international research collaborations. Despite the advancements, challenges remain in enhancing employment outcomes for graduates, and attracting both local and international students continues to be essential for Hong Kong’s ambition to be a knowledge-based society.
