IPOA Condemns Assault on Police Officer in Kasarani
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has condemned a recent incident in Kasarani, where a motorist assaulted Corporal Jacob Ogendo, a police officer performing traffic management duties on Kamiti Road. IPOA Chairperson Anne Makori announced that the suspects involved in the assault are currently in police custody. Makori criticized the attack for obstructing security services and undermining the rule of law, emphasizing that such lawlessness deprives the public of their right to quality policing services. She encouraged Kenyans with grievances against the police to file complaints with IPOA through their toll-free number, 1559, rather than engaging in violence.
Additionally, Makori disclosed that IPOA has commenced an investigation into the death of a minor who was in police custody at Kambuu Police Station in Makueni county. The investigation, which includes interviewing witnesses, seeks to determine the circumstances behind the minor’s death. The minor was in the station where his mother was detained. Makori assured that if criminal culpability is established, IPOA will recommend prosecution.
