Sunak Champions Economic Stability and Growth in Campaign Speech
Rishi Sunak has affirmed the Conservative Party’s commitment to economic stability during a campaign speech in Stoke-on-Trent. Speaking at a local business, the Prime Minister highlighted the UK’s success as the fourth-largest exporter in the world, attributing this achievement to local businesses and Brexit Britain’s ability to outpace the Netherlands, France, and Germany. He praised local Tory MP Jonathan Gullis for his vocal support of Stoke-on-Trent in Westminster.
Sunak reflected on the challenges of the past few years, including the COVID pandemic and the war in Ukraine, and reassured the public of his support through measures like the furlough scheme and energy bill support. He emphasized that the UK economy has turned a corner with falling inflation, rising wages, and economic growth, declaring “the plan is working.”
Countering Labour’s promise to restore stability, Sunak argued that economic stability has been achieved under the Conservatives, insisting that they will always prioritize it. He criticized the Labour Party for taking the country for granted and warned of the financial implications of their governance.
Addressing national security, Sunak presented his Rwanda plan as an example of the bold actions needed in uncertain times and criticized Labour leader Keir Starmer for not offering new ideas or clear plans for the country’s future. Concluding his speech, Sunak appealed to voters for support to secure a stable future for the UK.
