CNN Acquires BAFTA-Winning Lockerbie Documentary Series from Louis Theroux’s Mindhouse
CNN has acquired the rights to the BAFTA-winning documentary series “Lockerbie” from Louis Theroux’s production company, Mindhouse. The series delves into the tragic events of the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, which killed 270 people, including 190 Americans, marking it as the deadliest terror attack on the U.S. before 9/11. Offering unprecedented access to families of the victims, investigators, and intelligence officers, the documentary provides a comprehensive look at the disaster and those responsible. Produced by Theroux, Nancy Strang, and Arron Fellows, and directed by John Dower, “Lockerbie” won against notable competitors to secure the BAFTA for Factual Series. Additionally, both Sky/Peacock and the BBC/Netflix are creating limited drama series about the Lockerbie incident. Mindhouse is also working on a documentary about the 20th anniversary of the Columbia space shuttle disaster for CNN and the BBC. Following a successful sale of another documentary, “Tell Them You Love Me,” to Netflix, Mindhouse is expanding its international documentary projects, with “Lockerbie” being distributed by NBCUniversal Global Distribution on behalf of Sky Studios.
