Security Guard Fatally Struck by Shuttle Bus at Valhalla Golf Club; PGA Player Arrested in Separate Incident
In Louisville, Kentucky, a tragic incident occurred early Friday morning outside the Valhalla Golf Club on Shelbyville Road, where a man was fatally struck by a shuttle bus. The victim, identified as 69-year-old John Mills, was attempting to cross the road to get to his job as a security guard at the golf course when the accident happened around 5 a.m.
Mills’ family shared with WDRB that he was enjoying his time working at Valhalla, appreciating the opportunity to stay active during his retirement. They expressed their love and sorrow over his loss.
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg addressed the incident, expressing the city’s condolences to Mills’ family and emphasizing the community’s focus on supporting them during this difficult time. He also mentioned an unrelated incident involving an LMPD officer and Mr. Scheffler, which is under investigation.
The PGA of America also issued a statement, expressing their devastation upon learning about the accident and extending their deepest sympathies to Mills’ family and loved ones.
Additionally, an incident occurred involving Scottie Scheffler, the world’s number one ranked golfer, who was arrested after failing to comply with a traffic stop directed by a detective at the scene. Scheffler allegedly drove around stopped traffic, leading to a confrontation where he is accused of injuring the detective. He faces charges including felony assault of a police officer and was released on his own recognizance.
Scheffler returned to the golf course later that morning for his scheduled tee time. He is expected to appear in court in Louisville on May 21.
