Manipur Government Announces Relief for Flood-Hit Families
Imphal, June 15: The Manipur government has announced a relief package of Rs 10,000 for each family affected by the recent Cyclone Remal. This decision was made during a Cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. The government will also form a subcommittee to address the rehabilitation and resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) due to ongoing ethnic violence in the state.
Cyclone Remal’s heavy rains in late May caused significant damage, affecting around 2 lakh people and damaging over 24,000 houses across 348 villages and urban areas in eight districts. The floods resulted in at least three deaths and impacted over 434 hectares of crop areas, particularly in hill districts.
