Morocco Arrests Four Suspected Terrorists Planning Attacks
Morocco’s Central Bureau for Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) has made significant inroads in counter-terrorism efforts with the arrest of four individuals linked to the «Daech» terrorist organization. These suspects, aged between 21 and 41, were apprehended on Thursday in a coordinated operation spanning the cities of Salé, Tangier, and Tetouan. This operation, led by Special Forces under the DGST, aimed to thwart their plans for terrorist attacks that threatened to destabilize public order within the Kingdom of Morocco.
The arrest led to the discovery of electronic devices, an array of bladed weapons, a «Daech» banner, and extremist literature, including texts pledging allegiance to the organization and guides on conducting “martyrdom operations” and manufacturing explosives. These findings shed light on the suspects’ adherence to «Daech’s» ideology and their meticulous planning for attacks on critical targets across the country. Notably, their preparations included surveillance activities to identify potential targets and efforts to acquire the know-how for creating explosives.
Further investigations revealed that these individuals had not only established communication with «Daech» leaders outside Morocco but were also potentially looking to receive support and official acknowledgment for their planned attacks from the organization. The BCIJ, operating under the guidance of the public prosecutor’s office specializing in terrorism and extremism, is currently detaining the suspects. The ongoing investigation seeks to unveil the full extent of their terrorist intentions and projects, as well as to determine their possible connections with other terrorist entities internationally.
