New Rochelle Hosts Gun Buyback to Start National Gun Violence Awareness Month
In New Rochelle, NY, a successful gun buyback event was held at Shiloh Baptist Church, marking the start of National Gun Violence Awareness Month. This initiative, led by Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah and New Rochelle Police Department Commissioner Robert Gazzola, saw the collection of 75 firearms, including shotguns, handguns, and rifles. Participants were given $13,750 in gift cards in total, with no questions asked upon surrendering their weapons. The event, supported by local leaders and organizations such as Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, aims to combat gun violence and enhance community safety through education on gun storage and adherence to New York’s gun safety laws. DA Rocah praised the collective effort in removing firearms from the streets, highlighting the role of community partnerships in the ongoing fight against gun-involved incidents, including suicides.
