NIA Raids Suspects in 2021 Spy Case

NIA Conducts Major Raids in Gujarat and Maharashtra in 2021 Spy Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted extensive searches at three locations in Gujarat and Maharashtra on June 29, 2024, targeting individuals linked to the 2021 Visakhapatnam Pakistan spy case. The searches aimed at suspects involved in receiving funds from Pakistan to spy on Indian defense establishments. Several incriminating materials, including mobile phones and documents, were seized and are under examination.
The espionage case, initially filed by the Counter Intelligence Cell of Andhra Pradesh in January 2021, involves a Pakistani ISI network leaking classified defense information. The NIA took over the investigation in June 2023 and has since filed multiple chargesheets, including against Pakistani nationals. The conspiracy aimed to leak sensitive information about the Indian Navy and incite terrorist violence in India.
Previously, in November 2023, Amaan Salim Shaikh from Mumbai was arrested for his role in activating SIM cards used by Pakistani intelligence officers. The NIA’s recent actions are part of ongoing efforts to uncover and dismantle the espionage network.
Further details on the latest searches are awaited. For more updates, stay tuned to Yo! Vizag’s website and Instagram.
