Latest AI Risks Evaluation Framework by NIST

In a recent announcement, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) unveiled a new program titled Assessing Risks and Impacts of AI (ARIA). This initiative is geared towards enhancing our understanding of artificial intelligence’s capabilities and impacts. ARIA aims to aid organizations and individuals in determining the validity, reliability, safety, security, privacy, and fairness of AI technologies in practical applications. This move aligns with NIST’s ongoing efforts and recent developments in trustworthy AI, including its contributions to the Executive Order on AI and collaboration with the U.S. AI Safety Institute. The ARIA program is set to address the escalating demand for AI technology evaluation in real-world settings, thus supporting the U.S. AI Safety Institute, broadening NIST’s research community ties, and developing dependable methods for AI testing and evaluation beyond theoretical models.
