October 7 Victims Sue Iran, Syria, N. Korea

Lawsuit Filed Against Iran, Syria, North Korea for Supporting Hamas in Deadly Attack

Summary:
On Monday, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and law firm Crowell & Moring filed a lawsuit in the US District Court in Washington, DC, on behalf of over 100 victims of the October 7 terrorist attack in Israel and their families. The lawsuit accuses Iran, Syria, and North Korea of providing material support to Hamas, which is held responsible for the attack. The lawsuit aims to unlock federal funds for victims of state-sponsored terrorism if the plaintiffs can prove their case. Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the ADL, emphasized the importance of the case in holding these nations accountable for their support to Hamas. The lawsuit outlines evidence of financial, training, and weapons support from Iran, Syria, and North Korea to Hamas. The attack resulted in over 1,200 deaths and more than 250 abductions. The Justice for United States Victims of State Sponsored Terrorism Act of 2015 allows for disbursement of funds to victims following a court ruling. Despite the low expectation of a response from the accused countries, the lawsuit seeks justice and highlights the severity of the attack. Among the plaintiffs is Nahar Neta, whose mother, Adrienne Neta, was killed in the attack.
