Magnitude-3.8 Earthquake Hits Ventura County, Felt Across Southern California
A magnitude-3.8 earthquake struck Ventura County on Friday morning, centered northeast of Ojai and about 80 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. The quake, occurring around 10:30 a.m., caused shaking felt across Ventura, Moorpark, Carpinteria, Ojai, Santa Barbara, Santa Paula, Santa Fe Springs, various parts of Los Angeles, Porter Ranch, and other areas. This event parallels the location of the magnitude-5.1 ‘hurriquake’ that hit in August, also felt widely across Ventura County and beyond. The earlier quake coincided with a weakening storm, leading to unique back-to-back emergency alerts for Southern Californians, including a flash flood warning followed by an earthquake warning.
