Pakistan Allows Consular Visit for Indian Suspects

Pakistan Denies Sharing Details on Consular Access for Arrested Indian Nationals

Pakistan Refuses to Share Details of Consular Access to Indian Nationals Held for Spying
Pakistan has declined to divulge specifics regarding the consular access granted to two Indian nationals accused of espionage, despite acknowledging that such access has been provided “from time to time.” During a weekly briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch refrained from discussing the particulars of the consular access but confirmed that Pakistan occasionally arranges for the Indian High Commission to meet with its nationals.
The refusal to share details comes in the wake of reports that Pakistan had allowed consular access to two Indians arrested in Gilgit-Baltistan for alleged spying activities. The individuals, identified as Feroze Ahmad Lone and Noor Muhammad Wani from Jammu and Kashmir, were arrested in 2020 and are currently held on espionage charges. They were reportedly granted a meeting with Indian diplomats on Monday, following a request from the Indian government.
The meeting with the alleged spies took place at Adiala Jail and was attended by a three-member delegation from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, alongside officers from Pakistan’s Interior Ministry. Despite the provision of consular access, the exact details and circumstances surrounding the communication between the Indian officials and the detainees remain undisclosed.
This development highlights the ongoing complexities in the relationship between India and Pakistan, especially concerning matters of national security and espionage.
