Global Leaders Convene in Switzerland for Zelensky’s Peace Summit
World leaders from nearly 100 nations have convened in Switzerland for peace talks led by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, aiming to galvanize support for a plan to end the Ukraine conflict. Notable attendees include US Vice President Kamala Harris, French President Emmanuel Macron, and other prominent leaders from the G7 nations. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has outlined his conditions for a ceasefire, which include Ukraine relinquishing control over four eastern provinces and committing never to join NATO—terms that have been outright rejected by Ukraine. The US has labeled Putin’s demands as an “ultimatum” and emphasized that he could end the war immediately if he chose to. Additionally, the US announced $1.5 billion in aid to Ukraine’s energy sector during the summit. Ukrainian forces have also reported successful counterattacks and the surrender of Russian soldiers in Vovchansk. The summit underscores ongoing international efforts to resolve the conflict, despite significant geopolitical tensions and the absence of Russia.
