Space Ops Chief Advocates for Virtual Training

Space Force Aims for Enhanced Virtual Training to Tackle Real-Life Threats

The Space Force is seeking advanced virtual training simulations to better prepare its personnel, known as guardians, for real-life threats, according to Lt. Gen. David Miller, the commander of Space Operations Command (SpOC). Currently, the Space Force lacks the necessary high-fidelity emulation and simulation capabilities for effective training. Miller emphasized that much of this training would be sensitive and thus more suitable for virtual environments.
As part of its readiness framework, the Space Force began the “commit” phase of its Space Force Generation model on July 1, which involves a structured training cycle. The training must integrate across various missions and weapon systems, moving away from a previously narrow focus. The demand for space capabilities has significantly increased, but the Space Force struggles to meet the needs of combatant commanders due to limited resources.
In October, SpOC will host an inaugural meeting with allies, partners, and combatant commanders to discuss requirements, capacity, and modernization needs. This meeting will follow a recent reorganization aimed at better aligning technological capabilities with operational needs. The conference will set the stage for future planning and prioritization, with a refresh every six months.
