Taliban Denies Hosting Terror Groups in Afghanistan

Taliban Spokesman Refutes Security Threat Claims Amid Regional Concerns

In response to Kyrgyzstan’s security concerns about threats from Afghanistan, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid assured that the country does not harbor “rogue” groups and does not pose a threat to other nations. This statement comes after Kamchybek Tashiev, the chief of Kyrgyzstan’s National Security Committee, expressed worries about the concentration of terrorists in Afghanistan’s northern provinces. Despite the Taliban’s assurances, analyses, such as one in Modern Diplacy magazine, describe Afghanistan as a breeding ground for regional terrorism, influenced by the conflicting interests of foreign powers like the U.S., Pakistan, Iran, and Russia. The magazine also highlighted the Pakistani military’s complex role in supporting certain Taliban elements against India, suggesting an increased risk of Afghanistan becoming a global terrorism hub. Issues such as poverty and unemployment are driving young Afghans towards terrorism, according to residents and experts. With 23 active terrorist groups identified by the U.S. Institute of Peace, including al-Qaeda and Daesh, the security situation in Afghanistan remains a significant concern for both its citizens and neighboring countries.
