Trump Champions Second Amendment at NRA Meeting Amid Trial and Promises to Counter Biden’s Policies

Former President Donald Trump, speaking at the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting in Dallas, positioned himself as a staunch defender of the Second Amendment, warning that President Biden’s administration is a threat to gun ownership rights. Amidst his ongoing trial in Manhattan, Trump promised to counteract Biden’s policies on gun control if re-elected, including firing the head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The event, which saw a more subdued atmosphere compared to previous years, comes as the NRA faces challenges, including membership decline and financial misconduct among its leaders. Texas Governor Greg Abbott, also speaking at the event, echoed Trump’s sentiments and criticized Biden’s policies. Meanwhile, outside the venue, advocates for stricter gun laws rallied, highlighting the impact of gun violence. Trump’s campaign announced the inclusion of a controversial couple in their Gun Owners for Trump coalition and criticized independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Despite Trump’s pro-gun stance, his record includes support for certain gun control measures, such as the ban on bump stocks. Vice President Kamala Harris criticized Trump’s remarks, emphasizing the Biden administration’s efforts in gun safety legislation and mental health investment.
