Two Men Charged with Planning Terrorist Attack on Jewish Community in England
In a recent court appearance in Britain, two men have been charged with plotting to carry out a terrorist attack against members of the Jewish community and others in northwest England. The individuals, Walid Saadaoui, 36, and Amar Hussein, 50, are facing charges of preparing for terrorist acts, as announced by the Greater Manchester police. Additionally, a third suspect, Bilel Saadaoui, 35, the younger brother of Walid, has been accused of failing to disclose information about the planned act of terrorism.
The prosecution has indicated that the planned attack was inspired by the Islamic State militant group, with the suspects allegedly intending to use automatic weapons against their targets, which included the Jewish community as well as law enforcement and military personnel in the region.
The Community Security Trust (CST), a Jewish security advisory body, has expressed grave concerns about the charges, noting them as a reflection of the increasing levels of antisemitic crimes. The CST highlighted the necessity of robust security measures for the Jewish community and stressed the importance of ongoing collaboration with the police and government to ensure safety.
Greater Manchester Police have acknowledged the distressing nature of the plot details revealed during the court hearing, emphasizing the significant impact it has had on the Jewish community. However, they have reassured the public that there is no broader threat posed by this plot. Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts conveyed the police’s understanding of the gravity of the situation, especially for the Jewish community in Greater Manchester and beyond.
