**Army Engineers Combat Flooding in Manipur with Swift Action**
In the wake of devastating torrential rains in Manipur, the Indian Army has been at the forefront of efforts to mitigate the impact of severe flooding caused by breaches along the Imphal River. The relentless downpour, attributed to cyclone Remal, has led to widespread inundation of low-lying areas, compelling numerous residents to abandon their homes in search of safety.
Engineers from the Indian Army, demonstrating remarkable efficiency, carried out a swift reconnaissance of the river’s embankments. They identified three significant breaches that had exacerbated the flooding situation. Through their diligent efforts, two of these breaches were successfully sealed off last night, providing some relief to the affected regions. The team is currently focusing on the remaining breach, a sizable gap of about 22-25 meters at Kontha Khabam in the Imphal East district, striving to restore normalcy as swiftly as possible.
In addition to these engineering feats, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles have launched extensive relief and rescue operations across the state. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to assist those caught in the flood’s wrath, which has been intensified by the effects of cyclone Remal. According to a Ministry Of Defence spokesperson, more than 4,000 individuals, including over 1,500 women and 800 children, have been rescued from the clutches of the floodwaters in Manipur.
The cyclone has left a trail of destruction, particularly in the Kangpokpi district, where it has disrupted essential services such as power, water, and communication. A critical bridge, vital for connecting the district headquarters with surrounding areas, has also suffered significant damage due to the storm’s ferocity.
