Cybersecurity Risks in Public-Facing Applications Highlighted by Kaspersky 2023 Report

Kaspersky’s 2023 Incident Response report highlights that the most prevalent method of cyberattacks involves compromising public-facing applications, which accounted for 42.37% of cases. These applications, accessible over the internet and including e-commerce platforms, customer portals, and online banking systems, are prime targets due to their inherent accessibility. The report identifies the exploitation of known vulnerabilities, particularly those identified in 2021 and 2022, as a significant threat vector.
Public-facing applications are essential for business-customer interactions but are vulnerable to cyber threats such as data breaches, malware infections, phishing attacks, DDoS attacks, SQL injection, and cross-site scripting (XSS). These vulnerabilities can lead to substantial financial losses, operational downtime, and compromised sensitive information.
Kaspersky emphasizes the critical need for businesses to address cybersecurity risks by implementing proactive security measures. Konstantin Sapronov, Head of Kaspersky’s Global Emergency Response Team, asserts the importance of swift and effective response strategies to mitigate the impact of cyber incidents. Kaspersky offers specialized Incident Response services to aid organizations in enhancing their cybersecurity posture and safeguarding their digital assets against emerging threats.
