Massive Power Outages and Tornado Damage in Chicago Area

Summary:
On Wednesday morning, more than 87,000 ComEd customers in the Chicago area remain without power following a powerful storm on Monday evening. The storm, which generated at least 11 tornadoes, caused extensive damage and led to over 430,000 power outages at its peak. ComEd has deployed over 3,000 utility workers to restore power and aims to have 99% of customers’ power restored by Friday evening. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornadoes affected various areas, including Channahon, Matteson, Yorkville, Naperville, and parts of Chicago. In addition, six other tornadoes were confirmed in the region on Sunday, marking an unprecedented event of multiple tornadoes hitting the city on consecutive days. Cleanup efforts are ongoing.
