Winona Police Clarify "Shelter in Place" Alert

Winona Police Locate Suspect After Shelter Order>

Yesterday evening in Winona, a shelter-in-place order created confusion due to its unexpected county-wide implementation. Police were searching for 25-year-old Stig Ure, who was suspected of assaulting someone with a sharp object before fleeing. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The order was meant to be localized but inadvertently extended to the entire county, an issue the police acknowledged and plan to address.
Four hours after the assault, a community member reported Ure’s location, spotting him crawling in weeds near the 1100 block of Highway 61. This tip led to Ure’s apprehension. The Winona Police Department emphasized the serious nature of the incident as the reason behind the shelter-in-place order and thanked the community for their cooperation and assistance in locating the suspect.
